Drum Lessons And Piano Lessons In Austin, TX

Why take drum lessons and piano lessons with me? There are so many wonderful musicians in Austin, TX so what makes one teacher stand out over another?

Exceptionally Experienced

Over the past 20 years, I've studied with several of the world's greatest jazz drummers as well as music education and classical percussion at New York University. I've also performed hundreds of times in club/concert settings and occasionally with grammy winners and stars in the jazz world. I quite literally directly pass on decades worth of the most effective practice and performance strategies that are available out there! I've also come up with many of my own concepts which codify what you're playing and break things down into easily understandable pieces.

Low Rate

At $30/half hr, $45/45 mins, or $60/hr, I'm less expensive than many of the nearby music studios. By cutting out the middleman and all of the overhead that goes with them, I can charge a more affordable rate for the student and still pay my rent in Austin.

Trial Lessons

If you would like to see if we're a good fit, I offer chill low pressure trial lessons with no commitment necessary :)

Custom Arrangements

One of the things that sets me apart is that I can create a custom arrangement of nearly any song and add/subtract difficulty so that it's appropriate for the student's current level. That way, they can be playing their favorite songs right away and still be challenged.

Composition/Arranging

I teach students how to compose and arrange. It's as simple as giving them a parameter or two and having them select from a few different options. While it may seem daunting at first, it becomes empowering once they realize that they've created a brand new thing that no one has ever played or heard before!

Accompaniment

After learning a piece, I often accompany drum students on piano and piano students on drums so lessons become almost like band practice! Then we can cover other aspects of musicianship that can only be learned when playing with others like listening to the other instruments, staying in time, reacting to the other musicians, and more.

Recitals

Once I have about 30 students in my studio, I will be hosting recitals. A lot of the recitals I played in while growing up were in stuffy rooms that had fluorescent lighting. I want to change that narrative and host them in hip places around Austin. That might be in a small theater, on a boat, surrounded by nature, or somewhere else!
